The Simple Rules of Golf

Penalties
You may think golf is simple when looking at just the basic rules, but there is a whole other point to dive into: penalties.
As you play golf, you'll come across different areas of the course that can make a hole more challenging. These include hazards, such as bunkers (sand traps) and water hazards, as well as out of bounds areas, which are marked by white stakes or fences. Hazards are part of the course and are meant to test your skill, while out of bounds marks the edge of the course and is considered outside the area of play.
Not every difficult area results in the same penalty. A ball hit into a bunker can usually be played without a penalty, although the shot may be more difficult. However, if your ball lands in a water hazard or goes out of bounds, you'll typically receive a one-stroke penalty before continuing play according to the rules.
Other common penalties include playing the wrong ball, moving your ball when you're not allowed to, or accidentally improving the area around your ball before taking a shot. These situations can also add penalty strokes to your score.
While penalties are an important part of golf, beginners don't need to memorize every rule. The most important thing is to understand the difference between hazards and out-of-bounds areas, play honestly, and keep an accurate score. As you gain experience, you'll learn more about the rules and how to handle different situations on the course.
